It English literature, we often get confused with the words ‘assure‘, ‘ensure’ and ‘insure’. Although they may seem like homophones but they are not as they don’t sound similar. There are numerous words in vocabulary that sounds similar. Here I am taking one example of these three words often confused in a sentence. Let me discuss on these terms and understand the proper usage of these words with examples.
Defintion of assure – The word assure means to make someone relax, free from worry and basically a commitment to someone. But that does not guarantee the outcome as promised to someone. Example given below.

If we observe the sentences above, the statements are positive affirmation.It’s all about removing doubts, concerns but there is no guarantee the action will be served. It is used to comfort the second person or the ones intended for usage.
Definition of ensure – Ensure determines guarantee of some activity of promise by a person to some other person.

Simple meaning of Insure – Insure means arranging monetary compensation against misfortunate events. Like insurance policy coverage. It has no relation with assure or ensure.
- You must insure your baggage during your travel abroad.
