The Secret To Write Faster – Simple Steps to boost your Writing speed

The secret to write faster is by following a rigid process. In this article I’m going to discuss how to follow this writing process and eventually write faster. Never judge your work before you even start penning down your ideas. That should be the later part of the task once you are done writing. Writing is getting your ideas on paper and the written words must resonate with the readers.

The biggest conundrum a writer faces is putting those ideas on paper as ideas spark multiple ideas and thus leading to never ending ideas and simultaneously your writer’s block appears and you stop writing. Thus it’s is mandatory to follow certain rules that will help you write faster without feeling demotivated or getting bored.

Set your word count

You must understand your project- your novel, novella, article, blog very well. Thus you must decide the length of your novel. Our brain gets programmed accordingly when we undertake a big writing project. If you’re writing a 100k words novel, you got to burn midnight oil if you really want to expedite your task. Your motivation should be a deciding factor. No matter what you write- big novel/short story/flash fiction, your mind creates that excitement and you are ready to accomplish the task by setting the word count. The right way is to stick to a specify word count per day you can decide yourself if you really want to finish your project early.

Setting right word counts can help you achieve your writing goal and this would only come through practice. You don’t need to write 5k words per day to finish a 100k novel in weeks. It all depends on practice and ofcourse giving quality time. You can’t compromise on the quality of your writing as well. For a novice writer, definitely it takes time to improve on the word count performance. I suggest stick to writing at least 300-500 words per day if you are starting out. Make it a habit and consistently write 500 words. Don’t be over ambitious and try to emulate big writers/authors who write over 2000 words per day. It is always better to be consistent writer rather than working on the bigger word count per day.

Write when you feel

You cannot just wake up early in the morning and start writing. Writing as a hobby or profession can only be given justice if the writing comes from your soul. Your creative writing doesn’t need to start at early morning 5:00 to 6:00. There is definitely serenity in the morning and it might act as a boosting factor to write. But boosting factor is not always about the serenity and calmness around. A writer can write a masterpiece even sitting in a crowd or even during commuting to office/work/travel. It can happen at any time throughout the day. But when you feel like writing, write with full dedication. Some people work on their creative writing after midnight.

The moment you write, you must complete your goal which you have defined. I personally like to write at night time. Creative thoughts flow very easily. But it might be completely opposite in your case. You might be a morning writer. Just remember, when ideas sparkle in your mind, pen down those ideas in a piece of paper or mobile. Ideas can sparkle any time throughout the day. But when you are writing the story, you must write with full focus and dedication using those ideas which you’ve already have.

Defining the roadmap

A roadmap is nothing but a great outline for your story. You must know the plotline of your story. It’s difficult to write all the minimal ideas at once and start writing the entire story. But an outline helps you give a clear idea of your story. Look into the unfinished drafts . Don’t neglect those brief outlines you’ve already made for your article or story. Your goal should be to give more substance to your unfinished draft. Never loose the thrill or excitement on the draft. It is very easy to loose interest on the draft if you are not engaging on your own work.

Try to get the same vibe and be determined to work on the draft and I’m pretty sure you will come up with amazing stuff and content for your story. Never get bogged down and keep writing a greater picture of your draft. When you create a bigger picture of your story, you can then segregate them in separate blog post, article or chapters. Then your roadmap for your story is set. Working on single chapter is easier than writing the bigger picture. Thus your roadmap for your story is set up.

Set Deadlines

You must have a deadline for your writing task, project. Without deadline, you can never reap good results. What activity defines a successful writer/author? Successful writers/authors set stringent deadlines for their tasks. Completing writing project within deadline sets you apart and makes you stand out in the successful author leagues. Deadlines can be anything. It should be flexible according to your potential, your speed and your task. At the end of deadline, you got to to produce quality content in specific allotted time.

Conclusion

There is no magic formula of writing faster. Consistency and setting realistic goals everyday are keys to writing faster. Stay disciplined and make writing a daily habit. You will not get the results immediately but after few days you’ll realize you are achieving your writing goals. Don’t forget to skim through your writing content to find errors. Writing faster doesn’t mean you’ll neglect the structure, grammar, content of your story, article, blog. Don’t forget to proofread your document once you achieve your writing goal and this must be followed everyday if you want to complete writing your novel in time.
