Clear Signs of an author – Are you meant to be one?

Are you a book nerd or a writer? We may be busy reading lot of books but what if we also have the ability to write amazing stuff? Most of us don’t think that we can write as good as all those famous authors whom we adore. We spent hours in reading their stories, books, novels. But believe me, if you are reading and have liking for books, novels, then you can also be a great writer if you are inspired. Thus here in this article I am listing the following points where you can identify yourself as a writer. You can say these are signs of an author. Once you feel you have the potential to write, start writing and I am pretty sure everyone of us has great stories to write.

#1 Your willingness to study new books and novels

One of the prominent signs of an author is that you are a book nerd and always love reading books. A great writer has to be a great reader. Besides, you don’t count the number of books you read, you love to fill up your study room with books and keep reading books for hours.

#2 Feel guilty about not writing regularly

If someday you have not written anything, say for e.g: blog, article, chapters of your novel, you feel tremendously guilty. This shows your unconditional love for writing. A writer always writes something everyday no matter how busy and if someone misses the writing for a day or two, he/she feels guilty.

#3 Daydreaming about your WIP

You are an author if you keep on day dreaming about your WIP(Work in Progress) even if you are working or busy in different tasks during any time of the day. It doesn’t matter if you are in busy grocery store, office, cooking, washing dishes, cleaning house or relaxing, you always dream about your writing task. You always think of the following questions in your mind. Where your novel characters stands out? How the story will pan out? What characters to add? And many more. These set of questions prove you are a writer.

#4 Observe your environment

You are a keen observer of your surroundings and environment. Great authors and writers study the environment well and come up with new ideas from real life facts, scenarios, issues. They always ask questions to the people surrounding them. Remember a knowledgeable person always have questions as they want to know more and learn more.

#4 Ability to Identify great writing from mediocre writing

This skill is only developed by good readers who turned out to be good writers. Only a good writer can understand what a great writing means to them. They can tell after reading a story the book is worth a read or not. Only a writer has this skill and if you have this skill, then it’s one of the clear signs of an author.

#5 Try to read or watch same movies multiple times

If you watch some movies or read some books multiple times, then it doesn’t mean that it’s your favorite movie or favorite book. It means that it can be your favorite movie or book but it also means you love to analyse the plot and understand more intricate details of the scene/chapter. Maybe you want to write a better plot than those in movies or books. It’s all about more analytical and extract the creative juices out of the movie or book.

#6 Learning new words everyday

Another clear sign of a book is that you love to learn new words everyday. You love to increase your vocabulary and you like to use those new words in your novel.

#7 You love fun, excitement, thrill

If you are fun loving, full of excitement and love adventure and thrill, it can also indicate that you can be a writer. Writers should portray emotions well in the novel and for that the author must himself experience some real world fun, entertainment and adventure before writing a fiction story or a non fiction story.

#8 Running after the book store, not to the gym

One of the obvious signs of an author is authors run after book stores, libraries, book shops to buy new books rather than attending the gym. Authors are seldom seen in gym. It does not mean authors are not fitness freak, it’s just that they put less time in the exercises. But they know how to stay fit and healthy. If you are not staying mentally fit, you cannot write. Thus running towards bookstore and spending time there are clear signs of author

#9 Great Story teller

Suppose you are the person who loves to tell story to any random persons, friends, colleagues, siblings, parents. You keep telling them even if they don’t find any interest in your story. This means you are a future author.

#10 You can write anywhere

Writers, authors can write anywhere. They don’t need a desk or table to write a story. If they have a story idea, they can write in a park, library anywhere.

#11 You don’t need excuses to write

Authors don’t give lame excuses to write. They will write no matter what state of mind they are in. They don’t need excuses, they won’t say they need motivation to write something. For them, they will write even in a dull state of mind at any time of the day. They don’t need to be in a jovial mood to write. For them, writing is a passion and their creative juices always flow when they write.

#12 Soliloquy

Authors often talk to themselves to clarify the story ideas that just came to their head. Moreover, they will ask themselves whether this idea is good or not and whether he will put this idea to his current W.I.P.

#13 Writing is your greatest passion

You don’t need anybody’s feedback to write. When you feel that someone is trying to insult your writing skills, you just ignore them keep on writing. This is probably the best sign of an author if you are unfazed by a random critique, then you are on your way to become a good author.

Conclusion
