How to write a book report ?

Book reports are literary assignments assigned to high school students . It differs from book review in certain ways. So you must be wondering how to write a book report?
It determines the summary of the literary work in the book where as in book review professionals recommend or don’t recommend the book to readers. But reports are basically literary projects , assigned to students. Here the student don’t give feedback or evaluate the book, he/she makes a note of the plot summary, theme of the story , holistic character analysis. The length of the reports varies as per grade level of students . But on average , an average book report can range from 250-600 words.

The basic steps in writing a book report .

1)Find details

Finde the author details ,book title and genre details and whether it is novella, novel or short story . Also note the total number of pages and the publishing year and the publisher.

2)Read the entire book

Before writing the report, read the entire book with no chapters skipped.

3)Mark important events

Mark important events ,actions, characters and lot of examples from the book. Note the description of characters . Use important quotes and examples directly from the book to highlight in your report.

Conclusion

In general, you cannot just skip to the end of the book and start writing book report, just by looking into blurb you are making a report that makes no sense. You need to go through entire book. Treat it as fun if you studying fiction, autobiography .Understand the underlying concepts when studying non fiction, what exactly the author is trying to portray . Overall it should not be an evaluation as told before. It is given to know whether the students have studied well enough to prepare the book report .There is no restriction in giving a judgement on the book, author of the book if you feel so.
